6 Months!

I've been very delinquent with posting. Sorry about that! I guess this is what working mommyhood is about. So, Adam turned 6 months last week! Unfortunately, I was unable to go to his 6 month appointment (client meeting), but I armed Brad with a long list of questions for the doctor. Adam was 17 lbs, 12 oz. and 26 inches long, which is 50th percentile for both weight and length. As usually, the doctor said he looks just perfect! In the past few weeks, Adam has also had two teeth break through. We have been so lucky, as he was not a fussy teether. I've heard teething can be pretty tough on babies (and parents!), so we are very lucky. We're also trying to feed Adam more solids. Thus far he has had rice (no stars), oatmeal (1/2 star), peas (1 star), carrots (1 star) , sweet potatoes (3 stars), apples (3 stars) and pears (3 stars). Looks like Adam has a sweet tooth like his mommy! He's finally getting the hang of eating from a spoon, but still prefers the bottle. He is also sitting up like a champ, and we suspect we'll have a crawler soon.

Adam and I are also going to a music class on Saturday mornings. Ever since he was an infant, I've noticed that Adam likes music and I thought he'd enjoy a class. Since we don't get to spend as much time together during the week, it's nice to have this Adam/mommy time. We also went swimming a couple of weeks ago, and Adam seemed to really enjoy that. I enjoy seeing how cute he is in his bathing suit!

Work is going well. I'm enjoying my new environment, my new coworkers and my new clients. The change is good. I've gotten back in the swing of things, and don't mind not being home with Adam anymore. Good thing, since I need to work!

It was just a matter of time...

So, it took a whopping two weeks, but Adam came down with daycare cooties! Poor thing! This past weekend, he was a little congested, coughing and drooling A LOT, so we thought that he might be teething. My parents were here this past weekend, so they actually kept Adam home with them on Tuesday. And, poor Grammy and Grampy....Adam was not a happy camper for them! He was just miserable on Tuesday. We should have known something was up when he woke up several times through the night before. He's usually a great sleeper. On Wednesday, he seemed to be better, so I stayed home with him for a little bit longer than normal in the morning, but then took him to daycare. Of course, I got a call at about noon saying that he had the beginnings of pinkeye! So, Brad picked him up and took him to the doctor. Ended up he had an ear infection, eye infection and a rash all brought on by a "summer bug". He was sent home with antibiotics and eye drops.

This morning, when I got up, Adam's poop was red (TMI?!)! So, I called the doctor, and he told me to bring Adam in. After rushing to get him fed, dressed and me dressed, we headed out to the doctor's office. When we got there, we didn't have to wait long, thankfully, and when his doctor walked in, he started apologizing...the medication causes red poop! Glad it wasn't anything more serious, but we could have avoided a trip to the doctor. I've now learned to read the side effects on prescriptions! Adam was in great spirits today, and he looks a lot better. He probably could go back to daycare, but we don't want to take any chances. So, Daddy will be staying home with Adam tomorrow. I'm just glad that we're on the tail end of this thing...it's tough to see your little one miserable. But, he's been a trooper. I think Grammy and Grampy bore the brunt of it on Tuesday (sorry!).

In other news, Brad and I had our first night away from Adam. To celebrate our anniversary, we went down to the Ritz at Lake Oconee for a night. It was great to get away, but I missed Adam so much. It's actually a little ridiculous how much I missed him! At least I know now that I'm not ready for a longer trip. Now that I'm back at work, I want to spend as much time as I can with him on the weekends. Speaking of work, it's still going well. It took a couple weeks to get over the initial shock of going back, but now I'm glad to be back working. I think, though, that maybe part-time would be ideal.

Now that Adam's feeling better, I need to take some more pictures! I'll try to post some with the next blog post.

Work/Daycare update

So, Monday was the start of working mommyhood and I guess it's been okay so far. I do miss Adam, but it has been tolerable, which I think is in part due to the fact that Brad does drop off. I get to do pick up, which I am certain is much more fun! Nothing gets you through the day like thinking about your little one's smiling face when you see him!

Jen's job - So far, so good. Whenever you start a new job, it's slow going in the beginning, but I actually have had some work to do, which is good. The days go by much more quickly. My new coworkers are great, and it really seems like a great environment in which to work. It's just been tough getting back in the swing of things after not being at work for 5 months. But, I feel like my brain is getting back to normal! I'm still located in Buckhead, but enjoying my new building better as there are many more lunch options within walking distance AND free parking!

Daycare - Adam has had a tough time transitioning to daycare, which I think is to be expected. He is only taking about 2 half hour naps a day, in contrast to the 4 hours or so of napping he did when at home. The first couple days he was kind of fussy in the evenings, so we just put him down to sleep a little earlier. Thursday and Friday were much better. He is one of the youngest in daycare, and all of the teachers love him. When he was picked up on Friday, he wasn't even in his room, because another teacher had him! So, I think things will get better and better as time goes on...at least I hope so!

More to come....looking forward to the long weekend ahead!

Hi Ho, Hi Ho...

It's back to work I go! Tomorrow is the first day of my new job and the end of my stint as a stay at home mom. While I am SO grateful to have had 5 months home with my little one, I will miss him so much while I am at work. Adam will be attending "school" in the Virginia Highlands, and I am certain he will be very well cared for. But, nothing compares to mommy, right?! I have no fears about leaving him....as others have said, separation anxiety is about the parents and not the child at this age, and I think that's true. Thankfully, Brad will be doing dropoff, so I will not have to go through the agony of actually leaving him. Since I'm starting a new job, I will just be a new co-worker, not a mommy returning from leave, so if I cry at work, folks may not be that understanding!

Adam will also be 5 months old tomorrow. Where has the time gone?! I took his monthly pic today, since I thought tomorrow might be a little crazy. I know Adam hasn't been around that long, but this is certainly the most fun age yet. He has become such a smiley, happy baby and I just adore him. An example: tonight we went grocery shopping, and I got him into one of his hysterical laughing moods. He was letting out VERY loud belly laughs, and everyone in our checkout line was staring! When it was our turn at the register, the cashier told Adam that he was "just too happy". Can you imagine? Who thought the little boy who used to be inconsolable every evening would turn into this adorable, giggly little man?

I'll post soon and let you know how the new job and daycare are going. For now, enjoy the pictures.

Milestones!

Yesterday, I took Adam to a friend's house for lunch and a playdate. When I got there, the two other babies were on the floor playing. One is about 8 months old, and she was crawling all around. The other is six months old, and he was sitting up. I was so impressed. I took Adam out of his carrier and put him down to show the others how he was doing so well sitting when supported. I took my hands away and he sat on his own! He obviously can't stay up for very long, but he is definitely sitting! I can't believe he's doing it so early, but I'm not surprised as he's been a strong baby from the beginning.

This morning, we were playing with Adam on the floor, and I was showing Brad how well he was sitting. We put Adam on his belly and he started rolling over. He's done it before (seemed like a fluke), but today he was definitely making a effort to roll over and he did it a few times in a row. I have one time on video (although it is dark).

Adam changes so much every day, but I definitely feel that the past couple of weeks have been the most dramatic. His hands are working so well...he's able to pick up stuff so easily and put it wherever he wants it (mostly his mouth!). He's also gotten very loud. I think he realizes he can scream (in joy), and enjoys doing this often. Also, he has the cutest little belly laugh! He's just so much fun, and we are enjoying him so much!

Adam's First Solids

For the past couple days, Adam has been fussy after his first bottle, so we thought it might make sense to introduce some rice cereal. So, I tried it for the first time today. Apparently. babies have some sort of reflex that they lose between 4 and 6 months that makes it easier for them to eat solids. I'm not sure that Adam has lost it yet! Every spoonful I put in his mouth seemed to make its way back out! As you'll see from the pictures, he had cereal dripping down his face. Overall, he didn't seem to enjoy it too much (although he didn't seem to dislike it, either). Maybe he's like his daddy, and would prefer white rice to brown?! Anyway, I'll probably try a few more times, and if he's not that interested, I'll wait a while to try again.
